Can’t say I much like judging the worth of a person by how much they try to fight against those who have abused them.
Not to mention the situations are pretty different. Fenris’ main struggle in the game is not against magisters or Tevinter or blood magic, really — those are what caused his current state, but his story arc is about coming to terms with himself, with being a free man, with forming an identity that isn’t just “slave”. Remember, he didn’t actually know who he was before becoming a slave, and freedom never occurred to him until he ended up with the Fog Warriors by accident. He was conditioned to obey and want nothing more. When you encounter him in the game, slavery and being hunted are quite literally all he has experience with.
I really don’t know what he could be expected to do, especially considering that those he opposes are in Tevinter and the game is set in Kirkwall, and were he actually to go to Tevinter, he’d likely rapidly be recaptured and enslaved again. The two situations are not the same, and really, I think trying to cope with learning how to be a free man for the first time is enough challenge for now. Got to say it irritates me to see someone look at a slave who spent years escaping and trying to stay free - a serious and difficult accomplishment in itself — and say “Well, that’s not doing enough. Try harder.”
