Augh I am reading back on the Jennifer Hepler thing and I am just so livid

In part that I know that I am one of the people that she has helped to be able to play these games at all. I typically have to avoid shooters because they make me motion-sick, but the ability to change the level of combat means I can control how much time I have to spend in that situation and how sick (or not) I have to get.

And then we get to certain levels, where I have to use the story mode, not because I suck at the game or am lazy (though really, who cares if you want to blow past the combat, it’s one part of what these games are about) but because the husks give me literal panic attacks. As in being ill, as in shaking too hard to function, as in if I had to spend the normal time in combat against them I would not be able to complete the games. I don’t think this makes me a bad fan or unworthy of playing. I still get massive enjoyment out of making all the choices that affect the story.

Some people only really enjoy the games if they are challenged by the combat. My best friend is like that. No one is taking that option away from you. Having the story mode there isn’t making you fucking use it. Choose the option that’s best for you and let others do what they want. It’s a mode of entertainment, what is even the point if you’re not being entertained?

I’m not going to feel sorry for you because you are losing your exclusive-gamer club which only plays on the hardest combat modes and would never dare to complain about wanting queer romance options or non-white characters or practical armor for ladies because all that is just whining, right? But complaining about more people being able to enjoy the games, people who might not normally get to, because of different modes that you are not required to use, that’s not whining, oh no. That’s being a real gamer. Fuck you.

And of course it only takes the news that a woman supported this idea to make people fucking blow up. Yes, she’s so terrible, wanting to make her product more accessible. I can’t believe people actually were calling her house and asking her to kill herself. Okay, that’s a lie, I can believe it. I just wish I couldn’t. What the fuck is wrong with you.

Are you so fucking threatened by having to deal with sharing an interest with people outside your straight boys’ club? That you might feel demeaned by having a fandom in common with women, or casual gamers interested in the story or characters? Not to mention there are plenty of women who play games for the combat, as I’m sure there are guys who prefer to play for story. But no, it’s all the fault of ladies like Ms. Hepler, the ‘cancer’ of Bioware. She’s obviously ruining everything for you through trying to reach out to other people.

I hate you. And now I need to go make a BSN account so I can send her a pm.
